The Tennessee Titans released safety Jamal Adams on Thursday, as reported by NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo. ESPN was the first to break the news.
Adams, who joined the Titans for the 2024 season, appeared in just three games, tallying four tackles over 20 defensive snaps. Pro Football Focus rated his performance poorly, with a 49.8 overall score, and a disappointing 37.7 in coverage from six snaps.
Though the sample size is small, it highlights Adams' decline as an NFL safety. Once a standout player with the Jets and Seahawks—earning three All-Pro selections (two second-team, one first-team)—Adams’ career has been plagued by injuries. He managed only 10 games between 2022 and 2023 in Seattle before the Seahawks decided to part ways with him in 2024.
Following his release, Adams signed a one-year deal with the Titans in July. However, another injury kept him out of the season opener, and he was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list ahead of Tennessee’s Week 6 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Adams began his NFL career as a rising star with the Jets, earning two Pro Bowl appearances by his third season. However, a contract dispute led to his trade to Seattle, where the Seahawks gave up two first-round picks and safety Bradley McDougald to acquire him. Despite his prowess as a blitzer—achieving 9.5 sacks in 2020—Adams struggled in pass coverage. As injuries mounted, the Seahawks eventually moved on, especially following a coaching change in 2024.
At 29, Adams faces the challenge of recovering from yet another injury, this time without a team.
